Ayton is well served by the village school, Ayton Primary School, which has  a roll of around 50 pupils in classes P1 to P7.

The Friends of Ayton Primary School replaced the Parent Teacher Association and School Board which existed for many years.

Most pupils transfer to Eyemouth High School at the end of P7. Some may attend Berwickshire High School in Duns. Both secondary schools are new builds and have only been open a few years.
