Ayton Local History Society was formed in October 2000
with the aim to promote interest amongst the local community in
local history and heritage. It has met regularly during the winter
months every year since then, and organised summer outings to places
of interest further afield.
Meetings Meetings are held in the Bowling Club starting at
7.30pm on the last Tuesday of each month from September to
April (except December). A speaker is arranged for each meeting
to come and give a short presentation on some topic usually of local
interest (see a list of speakers and topics during recent years
overleaf).
Meetings are very informal and tea and biscuits are served when
the speaker finishes. This gives the chance for a blether with
friends, meet new people or chat further to the speaker. As the
evenings are lighter by April, that meeting is usually a local visit
to somewhere of interest.
Library
The society has
collected a range of books on various topics and members are free to
borrow these at the meetings. Contact Elizabeth Walker.
