Ayton & District Horticultural Society goes as far
back as 1881 when the Society's first show took place in Ayton
Volunteer Hall (now demolished, but formerly on Old Town). The
show has continued uninterrupted since then.
Ayton Flower Show, which is held on the last
Saturday of each August is regarded as one of the best village shows
in the area. A very active committee works hard in the run up to the
show and on show day itself.
The committee has arranged for a reprint of the
original show schedule from 1881.
It makes very interesting reading and involved prize
money equivalent to a week's wages at that time. Copies of the
reprint are available from the Secretary, Raymond Allan at a cost of
£1.
